- GameCube,Game Boy Advance - UK and Europe
Although Nintendo are not actually showing their games inside Earls Court this year, they have decided to do the next best thing - have a 40 tonne articulated truck packed with consoles and their latest games parked just outside the exhibition centre. The truck is full of Nintendo's most up to date versions of eagerly-awaited GameCube and Game Boy Advance titles; we braved the crowds and had a look inside...
GameCube titles
Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
- (European release November 14th 2003)
We have seen it, and played it! Mario Kart: Double Dash!! is already looking like a gaming classic. All of Nintendo's famous characters are back for some more chaotic karting action, with at least 16 characters available for selection including Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Koopa Trooper and the hairy hero himself, Donkey Kong. Double Dash!! Will feature two characters to race on each kart simultaneously, as one will drive and the other will take care of the opposition with wacky weapons. As you battle your way around the tracks just a quick tap of the Z button will see your chosen characters swap places with each other for access to new powerups, these include Spiky shells, huge banana skins and super sized bombs can all be picked up and thrown at rival drivers. Each track has been lovingly created, Nintendo have even thrown in some fiendish driving hazards and all of the tracks have their own secrets and shortcuts for players to learn and master.
1080 Avalanche
- (European release November 28th 2003)
The sequel to the original snowboarding title is looking amazing. 1080 Avalanche will take players back to Crystal Lake, Golden Forest, and Deadly Fall as well as some brand-new slopes to race down, while puling off crazy tricks. Akari Hayami and Ricky Winterborn will be joined by an all-new cast of characters to race through realistic natural environments. 1080 Avalanche is taking snow to an all-new level, with power drifts, ice patches and groomed hardpack. The game will also feature hazards for the players like massive avalanches, rockslides, cave-ins, and bridge collapses, and the game will be teeming with wildlife and other skiers. If you like your tricks then 1080 Avalanche will not disappoint, you will soon be able to flip, spin, grab, grind and tweak your way to glory.
F-Zero GX
- (European release October 31st 2003)
Ready for the ride of your life? F-Zero GX was playing inside Nintendo's truck and we can report back that it is as every bit as fast and furious as its N64 predecessor. F-Zero GX runs at lightning pace even though the game features some of the most stunning visuals and landscapes we have even seen in a racer. Captain Falcon, Pilot Pico, Samurai Goroh all make an appearance in the games, as 30 ships race at the same time at speeds of over 2000km an hour. We even played a two player multiplayer game inside Nintendo's truck, and the game never dropped below sixty frames per second. F-Zero GX will feature several challenging and unpredictable courses to conquer including old favourites like the darkly lit Mute City to the techno industrial heights of Port Town, all with twists and loops that we guarantee will make your heart pound faster.
Soul Calibur II
- (European release September 26th 2003)
We also got to play Soul Calibur II in Nintendo's lorry full of games, and we think it's the best weapons-based fighting games we've played. Exclusive to the GameCube version is the inclusion of Link, from the Legend of Zelda series. Link proudly wields his Master Sword against 13 selectable historic fighters, and a few new combatants including Necrid. Soul Calibur II features seven modes of play, which include Arcade, Vs, Time Attack, Survival, Team Battle, Practice, and Weapon Master. The Weapon Master mode replaces the Mission mode seen in the previous game, and this new mode will see your chosen character battling across a map on a quest to get new weapons. Soul Calibur II won the E3 2003 award for the best fighting game, and we definitely give it our best fighting game in a truck award at this years show.
Game Boy Advance titles
Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising
- (European release October 3rd 2003)
Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising will bring Game Boy Advance owners strategic warfare in the palm of their hands. The game has been significantly updated in this sequel, with an array of new missions and features that will challenge the mind, and give trigger fingers a much need rest. This time, players must defeat the Black Hole Army and its leader Sturm who is trying to conquer all of Cosmo Land. In a number of challenging missions, players take control of new Commanding Officers using their CO powers to weight the battles in their favour.
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
- (European release October 24th 2003)
The Final Fantasy series of games have always been a big favourite here at Silicon Fusion, so we were intrigued to see this latest outing on the Game Boy Advance. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is created by Nintendo & Square Enix, and will take gamers into a magical world of strategic combat and intelligent conquest. The game features an original storyline for this handheld incarnation of the Final Fantasy series, as players will start out in the quiet village of St.Ivalice, as assume the role of Marche Radiuju. From a snowball fight to encountering an ancient book - this Final Fantasy game soon whisks the player of to fantastical lands, and it's not long before your character becomes a mercenary and begins fighting epic battles that are fought from an exciting isometric 3D viewpoint.
Super Mario Advance 4
- (European release October 17th 2003)
The Italian plumber is back for the Game Boy Advance with Super Mario Bros 3: Super Mario Advance 4. The game will include all-new features in this forth adaptation of the series of classic Mario games from Nintendo. The original game is still regarded by many as one of the best games of all time. This version of the game will include even better power-ups, amazing graphics, more levels and an all-new multiplayer action. The story follows Bowser and his crew of rebellious rogues, who have forced the land into complete chaos by transforming the local kings into animals. It is up to the dynamic duo, Mario and Luigi to stop them and save the kingdom. Mario will have some new incredible super powers such as being able to grow bigger and more powerful than seen before.
