Posted by John Grothier - Xbox,GameCube,PlayStation 2,PC - UK and Europe On Friday all the major players, Sony, Nintendo, Electronic Arts, Microsoft and GAME were at the MCV Industry Excellence Awards held in central London. The awards ceremony was hosted by BBC Radio and Television presenter Nicky Cambell, as the night brought together the leaders of the £2 billion UK computer and video games industry. The prestigious set of accolades up for grabs were created to acknowledge the innovation and creativity of people who run the key operational divisions of the games industry's companies and organisations. The winners of the MCV Industry Excellence Awards 2004 are: RETAIL Small Retailer of the Year E-Play Most Improved Retailer Gamestation General Retailer of the Year Woolworths Online Retailer of the Year Amazon Best Retail Buying Team GAME Specialist Retailer of the Year GAME MARKETING Best Trade Marketing Nintendo (Game Boy Advance SP) Best Use of Below-The-Line Marketing Electronic Arts (Need For Speed: Underground) Best Use of Broadcast Media Sony (Fun, Anyone? generic) Best Use of National or Specialist Press Nintendo (Game Boy Advance SP) New Games Brand of the Year EyeToy (Sony) Games Brand of the Year EyeToy (Sony) PEOPLE & INDUSTRY UK Development Team of the Year Sony London Studios Distribution Team of the Year Gem Magazine Team of the Year Official PlayStation 2 (Future) PR Team of the Year Microsoft/Red Consultancy Sales Team of the Year Sony/Centresoft Marketing Team of the Year Electronic Arts Games Industry Newcomer Nokia Most Improved Company Ubisoft Grand Prix Award Electronic Arts Stuart Dinsey, managing director of Intent Media, which publishes trade weekly MCV, said: "It is the people who work in the business that make the UK market the envy of the world for its energy, fraternity, history, consumer appetite and talent.
