E3 Overview (E3 2005)
The Electronic Entertainment Expo 2005, the biggest media event of the year is gearing up and we're ready to go.
Posted by Chris Snook - PlayStation 2,Xbox,PC,GameCube,Game Boy Advance - UK and Europe

E3 or the Electronic Entertainment Expo is one of the biggest, some would say the biggest get together of games professionals each year. It is a place where new technologies can be unveiled - the original Xbox was first shown to the public at an E3 a few years back - and a place to show off the products that you hope will be the chart toppers for the following year.

This gathering takes place about once each year, for a few days in the middle of May, this year from the 17th through to the 20th in Los Angeles and often provides the first looks at some of the new games that are in development, giving the press and public a peek as to what to expect on the shelves. All the major publishers and developers are there as are a number of the smaller firms, all eager to display what they have in the works.

It is also an occasion to pick up on gossip about what the next set of games and hardware beyond those on show maybe, with a decent chink of the games industry press - both print and online - in attendance a lot of information emerges into the light of day. The first solid details on the PSP and DS came forth last year, as did the very first demo models.

So what for this year?

We may see some info on Xenon the codename for the Xbox2 (more to the point that the rumoured name Xbox 360 will be confirmed) and the PlayStation 3 and new graphic cards for the PC. Games wise Ubisoft have announced that we will be seeing the first demo of Prince of Persia 3 which they hope will be even more free flowing and innovative than the previous chapters. Rockstar is bringing along their Bully a humorous take on what it is like to be in school and the trials therein. The Gizmondo handheld will also be showcasing some new titles as it tries to leverage into the GameBoy arena, speaking of which Nintendo will also be there shedding light on the latest for the GBA and DS. TimeShift for the PC and Xbox is also due to be on display as is RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 both from Atari. Eidos will be there with Tomb Raider: Legend and Hitman: Blood Money, Electronic Arts will also be in attendance, not only with the usual line ups of sports sims and popular titles, EA will also be demonstrating their latest titles for the Mobile market. Titles that include Need for Speed Underground 2 and Madden 2006 small but perfectly formed.

There will also be media briefings, symposia, discussions and quite a lot more ongoing over the days of the Expo and as always Silicon-Fusion will be delivering the gems for you.
