August 8th releases
Again we take a metaphorical look at the gaming high street.

It's time once again to pull yourselves from the dream world of the internet and realise that you have no money to actually buy any of the games that you read about. So here we go:

Alien vs Predator: Extinction (Xbox, PlayStation 2): As featured in our preview last week. An interesting idea to develop an RTS game exclusively for the console market, especially one with so many bold ideas. If it plays as good as it sounds it could be worth a look. Fans do not need to be told, they will already have ten copies each!

Sudden Strike 2: Hidden Stroke (PC): Add on to the RTS game which already has a cult following. No review or preview code has been given to any gaming publication, which is usually a bad point. The fact that this release has arrived out of the blue also hints that it may be a blatant cash in, but to fans it will be a must. With all due respect, Sudden Strike 2 is a pretty good game, so this add on should be treated with all the respect of it's father.

Disney Sports Basketball (Game Boy Advance): Another addition to the Disney Sports series that evidently must be selling. All of the games in the series are pretty well doen though, toning down complexity in exchange for gameplay and accesibility. This is no exception and is quite enjoyable as a hand held game. The graphics are big and colourful in true Disney style and the gameplay is smooth and easy to grasp. Although accomplished, the game will only really appeal to Disney fans, which is in itself a fairly broad audience.

There is again no real killer game out this week that screams out to be brought. But at a push we would suggest a rental at least of the Alien vs Predator game. For the kids on holiday from school, the Disney basketball should suffice. If you are worried about potential 'must have' games being released next Friday, you only have Pirates of the Caribbean on the PC and Rock and Roll Racing on the Game Boy Advance to even consider. Although Rock and Roll will probably be pretty close to a must have for fans of the SNES version.
