22nd August 2003:
I Ninja is X Ninja
Argonaut is bringing I Ninja to the Xbox.
Posted by Chris Barnett - Xbox,GameCube,PlayStation 2 - UK and Europe

Following the announcement some while back that a new game by the name I Ninja would be released on the GameCube and PlayStation 2, the Xbox has been added to the list. More details have also been released about the game, which is quite interesting as the game appears more interesting than we could have hoped.

Following Argonaut's release of Kung Fu Chaos on the Xbox earlier in the year and the touch and go relationship it has with Malice, it may seem that the publisher has a thing for oversized heads and cartoon violence. So you will not be surprised to hear that I Ninja follows the pattern in a ninja genre sort of way.

The game is being developed by Namco and will offer a unique approach to the much worked ninja genre. The game will follow an individual ninja (I Ninja) as he faces enemies and bosses in order to gain new belts, recover lost 'Rage stones', free prisoners and perform any other action ordered by the master Sensai. Whilst this may sound kind of interesting in concept, the thing that really makes this interesting is that it will not take itself too seriously (in the same kind of way the new Zelda showed). I Ninja will be able to run on walls, perform a 'sword copter' move, swing from chains, throw explosives and perform various other ninja like moves. All this is complemented by a graphical style that resists the pressure to go cell shaded in favour of cartoon like 3D. From the screenshots alone (of which the format is not clear) you should be able to get an idea of what fun to expect when the game is released in the fourth quarter of the year.
