Castlevania returns (ECTS 2003)
Konami proudly show off their most famous gaming franchise - Castlevania, on the PlayStation 2.
Posted by John Grothier - PlayStation 2 - UK and Europe

Konami are set to release a prequel of one of their most famous series, now in all-new 3D form, on the PlayStation 2 early next year. Castlevania on the PS2 will bring new key additions to the tried and tested formula, and the story will act as a prequel to events seen in previous Castlevania games. Players take control of Leon Belmont, the forefather of the game's series. Leon tells the story of the Belmont clan, and how the family has become locked in their seemingly eternal battle against the vampire hordes. Leon, a noble man in love to his beloved Sara, is a little upset when is beloved mysteriously disappears one night, and so arms himself and prepares for the worst. Stopping breifly to chat to a passing alchemist who just happens to have a spare whip on him, Leon is soon exploring a dark foreboding forrest and the castle controled by a master vampire.

The PlayStation 2 Castlevania has been created by Koji Igarash, who was key in the development of the past Castlevania series, and we are please to report that this PlayStation 2 version is something very special indeed. The game is fully 3D, with rich, fully interactive interiors of Dracula's castles beautifully realised and packed with a huge selection of decaying and deadly adversaries out to defend their vampiric master. Similarly, the traps that lurk in every room also benefit from the 3D perspective, with the collapsing floors and swinging pendulums looking even more effective in the new game. When Leon enteres the castle he will face five access points, each leading to a dark wing of the gothic building. Players will have to explore a Cathedral, an alchemist laboratory, the garden, a theatre and a dungeon. The castle features hundreds of rooms to explore and over 80 species of enemy to battle with his whip, holy water, a dagger, a cross, an axe and a magic crystal. Leon must also seek out seven orbs to combine with magically-empowered relics to create devastating attacks and stunning spell-enhanced offensive moves.

Castlevania for the PlayStation 2 really does mark a stunning return for the series, and as proof we brought these brand-new screens back from ECTS for you.
