Street date strangeness mark 2
Otogi goes on sale early despite the controversy concerning the early Tomb Raider release.
Posted by Chris Barnett - Xbox - UK and Europe

Considering the amount of media attention that Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness gathered concerning it's early release date, you would suspect that retailers would avoid a repeat incident. But against expectations, the same thing has happened with Sega's much anticipated Otogi. In fact, the game is not due out until Friday, so it is worse than the early Tomb Raider release, which was only two days early.

Being as Otogi is a much smaller scale release than Lara's game, it will probably not stir the media as much. But Xbox gamers awaiting the release of Otogi (we are) will be pleased as it is potentially the next 'must buy' game for the console.

It is strange how the media will jump in and write anything they can about highly publicised games whereas smaller games (that are often more innivotive and original) get ignored. But if it means that gamers get games early then the only people who will complain are the retailers who are scared to break the street dates. All we can assume is that retailers know which publishers will give them trouble and which will allow 'under the table' releases. Are we reaching a stage when you could expect to see unexpected games on each visit to a games shop, or will someone step in a police things?

All we can say for sure is that we have taken advantage of this and you can look forwards to a review of Otogi as soon as we have chance to play it in depth.
