3rd September 2003:
Homeworld 2 demo coming
We know what you're thinking, "Isn't Homeworld that DIY store? So I guess this is one of those in store demos for the PC". Or maybe that was just us...
Posted by Chris Barnett - PC - UK and Europe

For a game as successful as Homeworld, it has taken a long time for a sequel to manifest itself (Cataclysm was simply an add-on, no matter how you look at it). But now the game is near release (25th September release), Vivendi plan to release a demo tomorrow. The demo will show both single player and multiplayer modes as it offers two missions in each.

The demo will be released on the VU Games website sometime tomorrow (we will post you a link when it happens, so there is no need to worry about locating it) to give gamers who are unsure the chance to play the game before they start saving. Maybe publishers believe that by releasing a demo about a month before a game is released, this gives gamers the time to save up for a game (but that idea falls flat on its face when you consider Nintendo's approach; unless Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour is going to be £200 when it arrives in 2004). But we agree that it is a good idea as the first game was sorely ignored by many as simply 'another space game'.

The new game features a new game engine that can display a whole host of special space effects such as dust gas clouds, wispy nebulae and space debris of craft that did not quite make it. The basic idea of the game remains the same as the title pretty much insists; you must battle to keep your home world, but the new single player saga will boast an engrossing story and varied missions.

We will be able to tell you whether the game is worth the wait when we play the demo (hopefully) tomorrow. But you can decide yourself as well with a quick play of the demo. The best bet is to read our impressions of the demo tomorrow to decide if it is worth the download (141 MB is pretty hefty for some, and the traffic will not be pretty).
