PS2 hits 60 million mark
Sony have sold over 60 million PlayStation 2's since its release.
Posted by Peter Cavan - PlayStation 2 - UK and Europe

Everybody knew that PlayStation 2's were selling well, but we now have the real figures. In the 3 years since its release on September 6th 2000, Sony has shifted 60.03 million units. This is divided into 14 million for Asia and Japan, 26 million for North America, and 20 million PS2s sold in Europe. These figures far outstrip anything Nintendo or Microsoft could even dream of. No matter whether you love or hate the PS2, the facts prove that it is by far the best-selling next-generation console.

Sony is preparing for the important Christmas period by increasing PS2 production to 3 million units per month, and making sure that plenty of new titles are released in the same period. This, Sony hope, should mean the PlayStation 2 will widen the gap even further from its closest rivals. It will also be interesting to see what Nintendo and Microsoft do to try to tempt people to their products.
