16th September 2003:
Crash your console
Crash Nitro Kart is coming to all four major consoles, meaning it will fight Mario's Kart-em-up on the GameCube!
Posted by Chris Barnett - Xbox,GameCube,PlayStation 2,Game Boy Advance - UK and Europe

Announced back in April, Crash Nitro Kart has now been provided with more detail in our eyes.

Without much knowledge you can presume that the game will be similar to Mario Kart but with Crash Bandicoot characters. And you will be right, the game is very similar to Mario's Karting games (both classic and upcoming) but it does offer some unique features.

The first thing that the game offers is obviously the characters and environments from the Crash Bandicoot games. A small amount of story has Crash himself kidnapped by some 'Emporor Velo' and forced to race to ensure not only his survival, but that of the entire planet Earth. The story is not really important, but it should ensure that the game has the tongue in cheek feel of the series, especially with 17 tracks based on locations established within the other Crash games.

Single player modes will be adventure, arcade and time trial and the game will also have multiplayer modes allowing up to 8 players to race each other. Details of the multiplayer methods have yet to be finalised, so we don't know if the game will have four or two player split screen, but it has been announced that to get the 'full 8 player' experience you will have to link consoles in some way.

All of these details are obviously for the Xbox, PlayStation 2 and GameCube versions of the game, but no details have been given about the Game Boy Advance version yet, so we will await an announcement before giving you the essential details. On a more interesting and competitive point, the GameCube version will be up against Mario Kart: Double Dash, not only in similarities regarding game features but also in terms of release date. If the game can compete against the sure hit Mario Kart it must be good, let's just hope it is.

We also have a link to a movie of the Xbox version in action to give you an idea of how the game looks when it is in motion.

You can view the movie by clicking the link at the bottom of this page and going to Vivendi's site. Navigate to the Crash Nitro Racing page by selecting the game by filtering racing games, you can then select the Xbox version where you will find the movie!

It should stream from the site, so you lazy people should not have to worry about waiting, although you will still have to wait until the fourth quarter of this year for the actual release of the game.
