But now you can play the show yourself, and it looks pretty good... Posted by Chris Barnett - PlayStation 2,PC - UK and Europe As if it was fate, a game based upon the TV series Pop Idol is set to be released on the PC and PlayStation 2. As the show is based on rhythm, it is pretty logical that the game will be a rhythm action game. But instead of simply being a cash in with tunes and the Pop Idol name, the game will attempt to recreate the actual feel of the show. And the first thing that springs to mind when the show is mentioned is the name Simon Cowell. For those unfamiliar with the show, he is the fat headed critic who simply takes all the hopes of contestants and throws them back in their faces. And in the game he will feature pretty heavily (he is even on the cover). The game will be based on timing button presses or dance mat moves with the sound of the music of the game. If the player starts to perform poorly they will be punished by a mouthful from Cowell and a slowdown of the music. This will help replicate the embarrassment of the poor contestants on the show. The thing that really appeals about this game other than the licence is the graphical style. It is heavily cell shaded with authentic studio settings from the show giving the game a party feel all the way through. Whilst the game is not aiming to be the greatest game ever, it should be a great party game and for fans of the show it will be like an Elvis fan getting one of the King's unfinished burgers. The screens below are from both the PC and PlayStation 2 versions of the game, with both versions set to hit stores in November. That gives you plenty of time to save up for a dance mat to make an ultimate fool of yourself.
