3rd October 2003:
GameCube price cut
Nintendo have slashed the price of the GameCube to just £79!
Posted by John Grothier - GameCube - UK and Europe

Nintendo have just announced that from October 10th 2003, the GameCube will be going on sale in the UK at the estimated retail price of £79, or around 99 Euros. David Gosen, Managing Director of Sales and Marketing for Nintendo Europe, comments 'There has never been a better time to get a GameCube and with this new price we want every household to have one. Our range of games has something for everyone and we know people love to play them. At the same time the industry has honoured these games with awards for innovation and excellent gameplay. If you are new to gaming or have been playing for years, then at this great price you simply can't afford not to have a GameCube.'

Retailers in the UK have pledged their support to Nintendo, claiming that the reduction in price will ensure that the Nintendo GameCube is a huge success this Christmas. 'We are delighted with this news from Nintendo. This will provide a real boost to sales, and is supported by some terrific new software titles. This price point is fantastic news for us, and even better news for our customers this Christmas.' Lisa Morgan, GAME.

After Sony just announced the price drop of the PlayStation 2 earlier this week, Nintendo have now followed suite, and in the run up to Christmas 2003 the GameCube will have a staggering 200 titles for gamers in time for the holiday. Many key games are exclusive to the GameCube such as Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Soulcalibur II, 1080 Avalanche, F-Zero GX and Mario Party 5. The GameCube also has strong third party support with upcoming releases like Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike from Lucas Arts, Viewtiful Joe and P.N.03 from Capcom, Billy Hatcher and The Giant Egg from SEGA, FIFA Football 2004, Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup, The Lord of The Rings: The Return of the King and Medal of Honor Rising Sun from EA, WWE Wrestlemania XIX from THQ and Tony Hawk's Underground from Activision.
