20th October 2003:
Haunted by Games?
Disney's next film becomes a game, and it looks quite good.
Posted by Chris Barnett - Xbox,GameCube,PlayStation 2,Game Boy Advance - UK and Europe

As was the case with Pirates of the Carribean, Disney has again turned one of its greatest rides (from its themeparks) into a movie. And yes, there is now a game of that film, The Haunted Mansion.

The game is a third person adventure with a graphical style in the same tone as the movie. This gives it a great look, and it moves well too. And we know this as we have seen the US version (which was released last week on the XBox and PlayStation 2) in action. The most striking thing is how similar the game looks to Rare's upcoming 'Grabbed by the Ghoulies'. But the Disney tone to the visuals really gives the game a feel of its own, especially when the animation is in full flow.

The game follows the same story of the film: Zeke Holloway must free 999 spirits without becoming one himself as he explores a large gothic mansion. Since the game is allowed to show much more of the mansion than both the ride and the film, it will feature puzzles that require clues throughout.

As the US plays away and enjoys the game, we can only speculate how good it is until its release later in the year on the XBox, PlayStation 2 and GameBoy Advance (although the GameBoy Advance version will obviously be a different game, we can bet that it will feature just as many ghosts and mansions). All we can say is that we are more excited than we are for the average movie tie in...
