Live for a Year
Xbox Live is a year old this week. As it's the fastest growing broadband games service ever we take a look at the stats...

This week marks the birthday of Xbox Live on a worldwide scale (in some countries it was only available on BETA test for part of the year, but it was still available).
As the service has surpassed all expectations it is impressive to look at the physical stats as they lie. It has been shown that around 25 per cent of Xbox owners will be online this Christmas compared with just 15 per cent of PlayStation 2 owners. This is not really surprising considering that the Xbox has the connection ability out of the box, especially in the new package that has been released.
At the current predictions of Microsoft they aim to have 1 million subscribers to Xbox Live by June 2004. Since the user base spans over 14 countries, this is perfectly feasible and with new updates to the service, these figures could be surpassed.
With games such as Project Gotham Racing 2, Counterstrike and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Acedemy all offering Live play, gamers will be pressured into subscribing to ensure that they are getting the very best from their machine and games.
No matter how Sony dominates with the PlayStation 2, the online facilities will never match those of the Xbox.
