5th September 2002:
Halo 2 trailer hits the 'net
Want to see what lucky press members got to watch at X02? Trust me, screenshots just don't do it justice.

Yep, after what seems like an eternity of waiting, everyone finally gets to see the Halo 2 trailer that was shown at Microsoft's X02 event in North America a few weeks back. Fortunately, the video is well worth the wait, with some absolutely spectacular lighting effects, improved bump mapping and even camera focus effects making it good enough to be a film trailer. The clip, which lasts 2:36 in its entirety, shows the Master Chief taking a weapon from a weapons cabinet on board a space craft, then going into a docking bay, looking out the windows and seeing Earth being attacked, with huge mushroom clouds appearing on the surface. Then, he punches a switch on a wall, releases the bay's airlock, and gets sucked out into space, moving towards the Earth, before dropping down onto one of the many alien spacecraft that are in orbit.

Trust me - ignore any screenshots you may have seen from the show and watch this baby in action! If the final game is anywhere near the quality of this trailer, Bungie will have yet another massive hit on their hands. Unfortunately, for those who are hoping to grab the video within the next few minutes, Microsoft have taken the unusual (but typically business-like) step of pushing their latest version of Media Player using it. What this means is that in order to download and watch the clip you'll need to download Media Player 9 beta - it's apparently the only thing that will decode the video successfully.

So, instead of being able to let you download the 32mb video from our servers, we have to send you to Microsoft's site where you'll find further information on how to get hold of it. Fortunately, the entire process is free, and you don't have to submit any information to download the necessary files, so don't let that put you off clicking on this link and seeing this behemoth of a trailer:
