Post Christmas painkillers don't work...
Painkiller aims to resolve the battle between heaven and hell. Not a Pokemon game then...
Posted by Chris Barnett - PC - UK and Europe

First person shooters are becoming so predictable these days, usually following a common storyline such as liberating a planet, fighting in a war or bringing down a criminal organisation. But every now and then we get one that has actually been thought through with originality. Painkiller is one of those games.

The story of the game sees the player taking the role as an insignificant player in a pending war between heaven and hell. The actual setting of the game is a place somewhere between heaven and hell (what is commonly referred to as Limbo in all those scary stories you may have read) where there is seemingly no end to the conflict. As you battle to survive and become purified you will find out the truths behind the war that is about to take place.

Not only does the game promise to be intense in terms of plot, the graphics aim to be revolutionary too. In fact, the game's 3D 'PAIN' engine claims to push 100X more polygons than the recent batch of 3D shooting games. How smooth this will run has yet to be seen, but the screenshots below are certainly impressive. We have missed out on covering this until now and apologise for the fact, but the new batch of shots we were offered today are interesting enough to compensate for it. You will recognise them as they are the six in 'red and white'. They are from a mode entitled 'Death mode' which leaves little to the imagination (yet the shots certainly look scary).

Hopefully the game will be as good as it sounds, at least it will be original in terms of plot. We promise to keep you in check with it, we won't leave you in limbo (the game should be out in March).
