18th March 2004:
Evil: Terminate stay Resident.
Resident Evil once more graces our small screen, bringing more action and destruction to the GameCube.
Posted by Chris Snook - GameCube - UK and Europe

Forget what you know. Forget what you think you know. You do not know anything and that is the way they like it.

First seen last year at E3, CAPCOM even ran a few demos that made us sit up and wonder. Nothing has been heard since and we can now see why. Everything and we mean that has been chucked out of the window and things have been re-graded from base zero.

And that may make fans hate it.

Breaking continuity, there is no mention of Racoon City, no Umbrella Corp. No Virus and as far as we can tell no Zombies. Quite a hefty departure but one which looks like it has freed the series to get back to making us jump.

Leon from the second game returns as our protagonist. He is now working for the US Government in its Recon and Rescue department and now the President's daughter has gone AWOL and it is his mission go get her back. First stop is to a Spanish speaking country, we do not as yet know where and contact with the local Law Enforcement Authorities at a small town. One problem the residents are psychotically insane and are for the most part human.

One element that does remain is the search for clues, find items, use items control method that is familiar however it can now be played in either first person or as indications have it an over the shoulder-cam type style. Either should bring a sense of immediacy to the gameplay. As does the use of an 'action trigger button' that can cause game altering events to happen at certain defined points. Such as Leon exiting a window by diving through it, or crashing a ladder onto his attackers. All good stuff.

Here is to the new Evil, a GameCube exclusive to boot and due out this time next year.

Go on lose the lock pick.
