Does Microsoft's shelving of six sports based title mean anything more than just cold feet?
Posted by Chris Snook - Xbox - UK and Europe

In the three years since it was launched the Microsoft has tried, unsuccessfully to gain a toehold in the Electronic Arts dominated sports sim arena. A trend that is likely to continue as MS drops a total of six sports releases over the next year, including the major franchises of NFL Fever, NBA Inside Drive and NHL Rivals. Also affected were the Golf Sim, Links, Tennis Sim, Top Spin and Amped.

Industry analysts are also wondering if this is the first move in a thawing of relations between the two companies. EA are unhappy with the way the Xbox Live system is run and set-up, EA being the one major publisher that does not support online gaming on the Xbox. Currently. The dropping of these titles is seen by many as a way for Microsoft to allow EA to get into a closer working relationship.

The Xbox Sports brand XSN Sports will remain.
