Posted by Chris Snook - GameCube - UK and Europe Video Games have a chequered history when converted into films - Street Fighter, Super Mario and Lara Croft to name the most obvious Turkey's. So far there has not been a really decent conversion to the big screen, the rumoured Max Payne film not withstanding. No action maestro John woo has reportedly picked up the rights to make a movie based on the Metroid family of games by Nintendo. All there is to go on so far is the Hollywood rumour mill, which has such titbits as the possible origins of the games' hero Samus Aran and why she does what she does. Also speculated is that it will cost well over $100m to make and that Woo himself will helm the project. The projected release date for cinemagoers is sometime in 2006.
