Fresh Beach Spikers shots
Watch some lovely ladies in action. Uhm - playing volleyball, of course.
Posted by Marc Hull - GameCube - UK and Europe

A few years ago, if you said to most people that a videogame based on tennis was being released, they probably would have dismissed it straight away. Let's face it - tennis hardly seemed the stuff videogames classics are made of, but somehow Sega managed to turn it into one of their best-selling brands when they released Virtua Tennis for the Dreamcast. So, when they announce a game based on beach volleyball, it's a good idea to humour them for a little while, since it could well turn out to be another sleeper hit.

Beach Spikers is being developed for GameCube by one of Sega's most famous teams, AM2, who are responsible for games such as ShenMue, Virtua Fighter 4 and the Aerodancing series. In the game, you get to play as one of 16 volleyball teams from around the world (yep, including England), and go up against the others in a set of matches forming a World Tour mode. There will also be an Arcade mode for quick thrills, and a Versus mode, where up to four players can take part, with two in each team.

Each of the 16 teams available in the game have two characters, meaning that there are 32 perfectly modelled women to choose from in total. They are also customisable, and secret modes allow you to turn them into famous Sega characters, such as Dural from the Virtua Fighter series or Ulala from Space Channel 5.

So far, Beach Spikers seems to be shaping up well. We hope to have more information soon, as its GameCube release gets closer.
