20th April 2004:
Stake dinner
It's time to get biblical in this gothic first-person staker from Scandinavia. Now is the time of the Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi.
Posted by Chris Snook - PC - UK and Europe

Not since the Belmonts have we seen such revelry in causing pain and misery to bloodsuckers. Now once again the Nosferatu are in for a kicking and a staking.

It is 1912, Europe is slowly shuddering towards war and the Olympics in Stockholm, where you have been competing in the Fencing tournament have just finished. It is late and you are near to your destination, the castle of your soon to be brother-in law, where your family and beloved sister await your arrival.

You arrive, to find them all kidnapped and foul beasts stalk the land. Welcome to Romania, James Patterson.

Based stylistically on F.W.Murnau's silent film classic Nosferatu, the game will follow James as he searches for his family, battling against almost insurmountable odds to do so and finally rescue his sister from the Arch-Fiend himself, Malachi - lord of the Vampires.

At your disposal are the classic weapons of choice, the stake, the flagon of holy water and the crucifix. Also available are more modern selection of muskets, sword canes and the like. The action is meant to be fast paced, with enemies appearing from every conceivable angle, encouraging the use of tactics as some can only be destroyed with specific weaponry. The monsters include Vampires, Zombies, Hellhounds and the sickening Flesh Eaters.

With a randomly generated castle, whose architecture and monsters are randomly spawned each time you play, is a sprawling mass of hundreds of rooms, each evoking the gothic look. All backed up by an atmospheric score, sound effects and 3D lighting techniques that place you into the heart of the action.

And no Scooby Gang in sight.

Out May 14th
