Posted by John Grothier - PlayStation 2 - UK and Europe Rockstar have just released some new screenshots showing off the next instament in their Grand Theft Auto franchise, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Due for release on the PlayStation 2 this October, GTA: San Andreas will put players into the shoes of Carl Johnson, who escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas...a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas takes place in the early 90s, and the story follows Carl when he returned home to find his mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster. Worse still, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. So Carl is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets. "In the past couple of years, we have put an enormous amount of pressure on ourselves to ensure we do everything possible to exceed people's expectations with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," stated Sam Houser, President of Rockstar Games. "We are starting to become very proud of what we have achieved and we can't wait to get the game into players' hands." Leslie Benzies, President of Rockstar North, stated, "We are extremely humbled by the success of the Grand Theft Auto series and it has made us push ourselves further than ever to create a title in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that will hopefully redefine the Grand Theft Auto series and revolutionize open-ended gameplay and video game production values."
