Earlier today the BBC website reported that Acclaim, who have been publishing titles since the late eighties have filed for bankruptcy in the US. With reported debts of over $100m and assets that at most amount to half that figure their position has been precarious for a while and indeed recently they had been in talks to restructure that debt and to gain an extended credit facility. If that failed it was stated that yes they would file for bankruptcy. With such games as Turok and Crazy Taxi recently plus Juiced and 100 Bullets just over the horizon, Acclaim posted sales of nearly $144 million last year. But there is slight confusion, No other site at the time of writing has mentioned anything of this, indeed the NASDAQ even mentioned that they were a stock to watch as recently as last Thursday. Plus the Acclaim website has mentioned nothing. More if it surfaces.
