Posted by John Grothier - PlayStation 2 - UK and Europe Sony Computer Entertainment have just announced that shipments of PlayStation 2 have now reached the 40 million mark. Since it's launch in Europe in November 2000, demand for Sony's console has been phenomenal. Just over four months ago the super-console had sold more than 30 million units, and has managed to sell another 10 million, despite price drops from rivals Microsoft and Nintendo. World-wide Worldwide PlayStation 2 Shipments by Region: Europe/PAL 12.06 million units. North America 17.01 million units. Japan 10.97 million units. "The PlayStation 2 user base across Europe, Africa, Middle East Australia and New Zealand continues to accelerate and to grow the market for computer entertainment on TV based consoles," said Chris Deering, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. "The recent and forthcoming line-up of new software titles on PlayStation 2 is the strongest in our history. Reviews have been outstanding, and the range of choice between now and Christmas is just awesome." Expect some real blockbusting titles to appear on the PlayStation 2 in the run up to this Christmas. Some of the must-have games include; The Getaway, WRC II Extreme, This is Football 2003, Formula One 2002, Tekken 4, Ratchet and Clank and Kingdom Hearts. John Grothier
