Posted by John Grothier - Xbox,PC,PlayStation 2 - UK and Europe Xbox and PC owner can rejoice, albeit a little quietly, as Rockstar have announced that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is comming to the Xbox and PC - but not until June 7th in North America, and June 10th here in Europe. After the fabulous job Rockstar did with the Xbox 'GTA Double Pack', we can all look forward to a great port which will hopefully include custom soundtracks. The PlayStation 2 version has become the fastest selling video game of all time, smashing all previous records and selling a staggering one million units in the UK after a mere nine days on sale, according to official ELSPA figures, sourced from Chart-Track. Roger Bennett, director general of ELPSA, said: "This is a magnificent achievement and equates to a staggering estimated value of more than £35 million. The entire Grand Theft Auto series has been a phenomenal success worldwide, generating sales of more three and half million units in the UK alone. But best of all, this series is home grown, developed right here in UK." GTA: San Andreas will put players into the shoes of Carl Johnson, who escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas...a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers. The game takes place in the early 90s, and the story follows Carl when he returned home to find his mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster. Worse still, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. So Carl is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets.
