24th September 2002:
Capcom shows Devil May Cry 2 (TGS 2002)
Take on the role of the half-demon Dante, or the new playable character, Lucia, in this gothic thriller sequel from Capcom.
Posted by Marc Hull - PlayStation 2 - UK and Europe

The original Devil May Cry was praised by the press for combining both fast-paced action and great cinematic environments. However, while it would have been easy for Capcom to sit back and cash-in on the game's success with a half-hearted sequel, instead they're hoping to mirror the original's appeal by adding even more features.

Once again, players will be able to take on the role of the half-human, half-demon devil hunter Dante, but new to the sequel is another playable character named Lucia, who will carve up enemies using her twin scimitars (which we've been reliably informed are curved Asian swords). Further work has gone into the environments this time, making them even more eerie and atmospheric than the first title. A lot of the game will take place outdoors, and includes areas set in a Gotham-like city and an old European town.

Continuing the 'bigger and better' theme are new character designs, with a wider range of moves and improved, smoother animation. The game is also promised to be twice as big as the original, and also contain an intelligent difficulty feature that will adjust the game to your play standards, so both the worst and best gamesplayers should find the title accessible.

Overall, Devil May Cry 2 is sounding like a very promising title, and these new screenshots from the Tokyo Game Show reveal that it's coming along well. Unfortunately, a specific European release date hasn't been given yet, with Capcom stating that it will see shop shelves sometime in 2003. Hopefully, though, we'll be able to bring you further details running up to the game's release to make the wait a little more bearable.
