The Formula One season has already started and with nineteen races this year it is looking quite good already, now ready to slip out of the pit lane for testing are two closely related titles from Sony.
Formula One 2005
and
F1 Grand prix
are essentially the same game, one tweaked for home use, the other for the gamer on the go so you can now play wherever you wish to. Though closely allied with each other, the two versions will carry a distinct set of properties.
Both will offer the chance to race the new Turkish circuit, before the GP there occurs this August and being the only official versions will deliver the latest model of cars from all the top teams, whilst giving the opportunity to drive classics from yesteryear on tracks from all periods.
The PS2 game features ranking and a buddy list to allow for the racing against friends across the globe, quickly and easily, all the better to test your skills with a wheel as you compete with human opponents. Also slotted into the package this year is a grid walk, with journalists and pit crews mingling with the drivers and grid girls.
Career mode offers the full Monty, with each race testing you to the fullest as you try out the new features and options of offer. Find it tough and there are driver tips on how to smoothly make a specific corner, audio guidance from the pits as your crew strives to help your performance.
There is also the chance to be an expert on the world of F1, with the Information centre, perfect for budding Murray Walkers as terms are defined and much more are presented for your delectation. As a final bonus there is the aforementioned classic vehicles and tracks to be unlocked.
F1GP serves up a sleek experience that is as slimmed down without loosing the essence of the 'home' version and with downloadable content there will never be two identical experiences as you game on the move. With WiFi based gameplay, against seven other PSP users and the Eliminator mode where each lap a car is dropped from the race there is just as much to sink your teeth into. Still if it is just a quick thrash around the track, there is the three lap quick race, allowing for a bite sized grand prix to take place whenever convenient. Coupled with a host of other scenarios, ranging from quick laps to having to defend your position on track there is a lot to enjoy.
Both are due out soon.
