It is a busy month for launches, the Nintendo DS debuted on the 11th and now another of the myriad new hand held consoles has emerged into the light of day.
The Gizmondo is one of the derk horses in the race, created by US electronics firm Tiger Telematics it bears a closer lineage to Nokia's N-Gage than either the new Nintendo or Sony products. Bundled with a pre-paid Vodaphone SIM, the Gizmondo will be able to act as a phone with all the usual bells and whistles, plus Bluetooth, GPS positioning capability and POP3 email capability.
Plus it plays games, of which twenty were available at launch including a Colin McCrae rally title as the most obvious highlight.
As an added bonus of al functionality being reliant on the usage of the SIM, there is an option to set up a guardian account which allows for tracking of the Gizmondo and presumably the user in event of theft and worse, using the GPS system.
Powered by a modified Windows CE OS and boasting NVidia GoForce powered graphics on a 2.8" TFT screen, MP3 and Video playing qualities GPRS connectivity the Gizmondo weighs in impressively.
As does the £229 price tag. Available right now.
