Eidos the Beholder
Lara Croft has a new saviour, U2 front man Bono and a few pals are to buy Eidos.

The Elevation Partners will not be a name familiar to many.

That is about to change.

It was announced today that Eidos had accepted a multi-million dollar deal to be taken over by Elevation partners, whose directors include U2 singer Bono and John Riccitiello - a former top bod at Electronic Arts.

Due to the news it has also been announced that the banks will provide further short term financial cover, to the tune of a cool £23M. It is expected that the deal will provide Eidos the flexibility to develop the next Lara Croft and Hitman titles to their fullest. Incidentally delaying them to next year whilst also allowing the development of games for the NextGen platforms that are around the corner.

With a dwindled cash flow due to a hard period of trading, this is welcome news for one of the biggest UK developers.

*Update: Later in the day it emerged that SCI Entertainment, one of Eidos' rivals has also tabled a bid, one which tops the Elevation bid by about five million pounds.

More when we have it.
