Posted by Marc Hull - Xbox - UK and Europe While Phantasy Star Online has had the online console RPG market all to itself for a very long time, when it comes to the Xbox early next year it will find itself up against some strong competition. Level 5's True Fantasy Live Online is going to be one of the first massively-multiplayer online RPGs for the Xbox, where thousands of players will be able to live a second life in the game's fantasy world. Like PSO, True Fantasy Live Online will allow you to craft your own alter ego using a character making system, so that when you go online you'll look reasonably unique. The first screenshots also show some suspisciously PSO-like speech bubbles, but expect the game to also offer voice support using the Xbox Communicator. However, where the game hopes to separate itself from those before it is in the gameplay, with the developers promising players plenty of freedom to do whatever they want. You'll be able to choose whether you want to go on an adventure, build up powerful weapons, or simply go fishing. Cooperation will also be a key feature, since some monsters that you encounter will require teamwork to overcome, so you'll have to make friends with complete strangers in order to progress. The first screenshots released from the game show a strong graphical style, making good use of the cel-shading technique to convey the fantasy setting.
