In an exclusive for its PlayStation 2 Sony has announced that it will be publishing SoulCalibur III sometime later this year.

Blessed with the hallmarks of the previous chapters the saga now moves into the sixteenth century as once again the two Soul blades, the Holy SoulCalibur and the Diabolic SoulEdge clash to decide the destiny of the world.

The major difference is Character Creation Mode, where you get to design your own fighter from the boots on up and decide how they fight and with what class fo weapons. There are to be three totally new characters, each with a distinctive weapon, one of which is a scythe, ready to reap souls presumably.

There are elements of the previous games, including verses modes, standard and special, Story Mode and the more eclectic Lost Chronicle Mode, a blend of weapon fighting and combat strategy.

3 new innovative characters have also been confimed:

Zasalamel (tentative) - This mysterious man desires to raise the evil sword. He drags those who witness the sharp light from his giant scythe to the abyss of death.

Tira (tentative) - An angel of death from the darkness with a bird-like grace, she plays with lives using her Ring Blade.

Setsuka (tentative) - The wandering beauty on a lonely journey. She lives for her revenge with a sword hidden in her umbrella.
