Phantsy's Blue Burst
Five years ago, the Phantasy leapt out into the void of CyberSpace, now it has reached the final frontier. The PC.

Phantasy Star Online broke the mould when it emerged five or so years ago. A game that could be played online on the Dreamcast, with good visuals, a nice story and plenty to do even if you were one of those who could not connect to the internet to play it.

Three years ago the second chapter was released along with the first onto the Xbox and GameCube, with even better graphics, sound and more quests to complete. Finally the third and final console game came out on the GameCube, a whole new storyline and a completely different system of play. And that was that.

Until now.

Sega have announced that there is to be an open beta of the new PC PSO, called Phantasy Star online Blue Burst, a dedicated version for the humble home computer. The beta due to last six weeks before the beginning of the official opening and subscriber period and is intended to give fans and new players the chance to explore the world of Ragol.

Further, Sega are promising over thirty new quests, a system where characters are stored on a central server, so you are not tied to any one PC but can play on any machine that has the game installed. A slick new customisation system to give your Hunter just the right look that you want. There are now well over a thousand items to select from to boost and improve your character as they go hunting with their friends, who they can now keep in touch via integral voice chat. There is the return of the battle mode and challenge mode, complimented by the Go Go Ball Lobby.

Best of all, Blue Burst will debut the fourth, previously unhinted at chapter in the Saga of Ragol and the fate of Pioneers 1&2 - expanding the content even further. Understandably Sega were enthusiastic.

"We've saved the best for last; the PC version of Phantasy Star Online is the most graphically detailed, content rich version of our popular action-RPG," was the comment from Yosuke Moriya, spokesperson for SEGA of America. "And now, there's no price barrier for those interested in trying it - downloading the game is free, and everybody can explore the vast world of PSO at no charge for more than six weeks." He added.

Go on adopt a Rag Rappy today.

Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst's beta is now open and the official launch date is set for June 9th.
