PSP Spoon Feed For Retailers?
Initial allocations for the PSP are looking quite limited here in the UK, adding to speculation of shortages.

Sony has announced to retailers the amount of PSP (PlayStation Portable) consoles it will allow them on the launch date, and it's not good news for many smaller shops. Due for release on the first day in September here in the UK (after being out in the US and Japan for quite some time) there has been a great deal of debate about supplies of the console. Originally slated for a July release, the console was delayed due to the inability to fulfil demand. But upon today's announcements of supply levels to independent games shops, it would seem that Sony is keeping supplies for the main chain-stores.
We can reveal, from speaking personally with several independent retailers throughout the country that the average number of PSP units (the value pack, consisting of; a case, memory card and earphones with mini-remote) that will be allowed to independent shops will be around two! That is quite astonishing when most branches of chain stores already have at least one demonstration machine now.
Whether the stock of the machine will improve significantly coming to Christmas remains to be seen, but the situation at the moment was best summed up by the owner of one independent shop when he said:
I asked Sony for 32 PSP consoles as that's how many people I had that wanted one from me. When the REP (from Sony) came in today he said that I would be allowed two! This means that I now risk letting down customers"
