Multiplayer Has Never Been So Serious
Serious Sam 2 will feature a co-operative mode so that gamers can take the action that one step further - into someone else's living room!
Posted by Chris Barnett - Xbox,PC - UK and Europe

2K Games have finally announced the full extent of the multiplayer features of the upcoming Serious Sam 2 on the Xbox and PC, and they are quite impressive.

Everyone expecting the standard deathmatch and capture the flag modes will be pleasantly surprised as the game will allow full co-operative play in the multiplayer mode. The PC version will allow up to 16 players to take on the single player mode levels whereas the Xbox version will allow up to 4 via Xbox Live or system link. This is a major step forwards for the series as it had often been hailed as simply a clone of all other First Person Shooters (be it a rather enjoyable one though).

The 16 player mode on the PC is particularly impressive and shows that the developers are realising that gamers want more than simple deathmatches. We can only imagine the potential of this idea if it is successful in this game. On the Xbox (or more likely the Xbox 360) we should see many more games taking this route as the Halo series has already proved that people can play together.

We remember the Dreamcast marketing jargon when it was first released, claiming that we 'all play games, so why can't we play together?' As the Dreamcast failed, perhaps developers such as Take Two will martyr them with games such as Serious Sam 2.

As it can be seen from the 6 screenshots below, the fact that you can see your team members battling in real time really does add to the image of being someone in the heart of a fighting unit (especially that alien thing that appears to also be on the player team. Unity for all species we say!).

We are certainly looking forwards to this about 100% more than we were before this announcement as we are such great fans of the whole Xbox Live lingo. Let us hope that when we meet you online in the game this autumn that you are on our side. If not, you may very well end up like the Dreamcast.
