17th August 2005:
For whom the Belmont Tolls
If you play Castlevania, you'll find none more in danger than the adventurer, Hector.
Posted by Chris Snook - PlayStation 2,Xbox - UK and Europe

In a double announcement, Konami have released more details about the vampire hunting titles, Castlevania: Curse of Darknessfor the PS2 and Xbox and Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow to debut the series on the Nintendo DS.

Curse of Darkness breaks from the traditions of the series and introduces Hector, a one time Lieutenant of Dracula who turned his back on his dread master after becoming disillusioned with the ideals he holds.

Now three years after the ultimate destruction of Dracula, the whole of Europe is swaddled in a malaise and now fuelled by revenge for the slaying of his girlfriend Hector heads back to the crumbling ruins of Castle Dracula and unwittingly into a trap laid to bring him back home...

Hector however has the powers of Devil Forgery, literally the power to fashion allies to do his bidding and so defeat enemies or complete puzzles, slowly building strength as they progress until the final confrontation is reached.

Dawn of Sorrow, will introduce the series to the Nintendo DS and follows the events of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, the well received hit on the GameBoy Advance.

It is a year after the events of Aria of Sorrow, it is the year 2036 and the hero of AoS learns that a hidden cult of followers hope to resurrect Dracula once more to bring terror to the Earth. Now Soma Cruz must infiltrate their lair, a staggering replica of Dracula's castle and defeat the hoard of monsters within as he delves deeper and further towards te evil at it's heart.

Dawn of Sorrow, will use the unique features of the DS, solving some puzzles by the use of the stylus or destroy crystal blocks using it so opening ways forwards. There are also new enemies and allies to meet, Celia Fortner the shadow priest who hopes to revive the Vampire overlord and two potential successors. Dario Bossi, who absorbed the ability to manipulate fire and Dimitri Blinov who inherited the talent of magical duplication. It is this unholy trinity that Soma must overcome.

He is not alone however, trapped souls can aid him in his quest, granting abilities that at the right time can defeat an enemy, by acting as a trap for bullets, or negating magic. These Tactical Souls are vital to Cruz's final victory.

Curse of Darkness is due out on PS2 and Xbox next Spring, whilst Dawn of Sorrow is set for an Autumn release on the Nintendo DS in the US.
