19th August 2005:
To seek...
...new shadings, new pixelations. To bump mappingly and go where no MMO has gone before?

It was about eighteen months ago that the first announcements for a Star Trek Online surfaced, with only a few details, no images and only a couple of tentative indications of just what it would be like and a possible release date of sometime in 2006 for this massively multi-player online title.

Now back in May, industry veteran Daron Stinnet joined the team at Perpetual Entertainment to help develop the background and world a little further. Bringing expertise gained on the Star Wars games that have appeared over the years including the recent Republic Commando.

Today another key announcement was made, Michael Okuda, the technical consultant who created the look and feel of many of the recent incarnations of Star Trek (including the LCARS computer system) has also joined the creative team at Perpetual Entertainment. Tasked with developing the technological look of the Trek Universe a few decades beyond the end of the last feature film it has been revealed a more settled universe is in hand.

"It seems the natural progression to be working with Perpetual as a design consultant for Star Trek Online," said Okuda. "They are evolving the look of Star Trek into the future, and I am excited to be a part of it. I am confident Star Trek fans will be pleased with where Perpetual is going with the franchise."

Within ST:O, you will be part of a crew or similar and undertake missions to build your fame and reputation even as you climb upwards through the ranks of Starfleet or maybe as a Federation diplomat amongst otehr occupations, eventually gaining the one best, manifest destiny.
