America gets 2.0 PSP Update
The American version of the 2.0 update for the PSP has been released, will Sony follow the same strategy for all future downloads?
Posted by Chris Barnett - PlayStation 2 - UK and Europe

Sony has finally released the superb 2.0 software for the American PSP, nearly a month after the Japanese enjoyed it. Since our import PSP is of the Asian variety we have been laughing at those without the update, as we reported in our 'hands on' a while back.

The software, which adds a web browser, seems to show what Sony is attempting with its hardware in this generation. It seems to be utilising a 'production line' mentality to its approach, starting in the safest regions and then leading to the areas where a risk maybe encountered. This means that the simple formula of: Japan=>America=>Europe seems to be the way of the future.

This has usually been the case with physical hardware releases from Sony, but in these days of digital upgrades it seems as though the availability of downloads will follow this path too. This has good and bad aspects as Europe can at least look forwards to getting the most stable version of any software, be it in a delayed manner.

The bad news for those Americans planning on using illegal emulators is that version 2.0 will remove the ability to play them, as did versions 1.5 and 1.51 before it. But this also means that the PSP is more secure from alleged bugs and errors.

The UK and European PSP is set to launch with the version 1.5 pre-installed on the system, with future updates likely via network connection or software download when a game is loaded.
