PSP Is Released - Kind Of
The initial batch of PSP related software has been seen on sale, without a Sony lawsuit in sight!

The initial roll out of PSP software has been released in certain stores across the UK. Officially released on Friday 27th August,
Spiderman 2
,
Tony Hawks Underground: Remix
and
Oldboy
(UMD) have been sighted in several stores across the UK, despite the console to play them on is not actually out yet in the UK!
This is a move that we cannot actually explain as none of the titles in question have been highlighted as in short supply and they are not limited or special editions. The only logic can be that they are hoping to cash in on impatient gamers who want to ensure they have a game at the exact moment that they get their PSP console on Friday.
The release of these games also shows that the stores are confident to give shelf space to something that is unproven so far. Pre-orders may be one thing, but until the initial hype has died down, stores will not know how eager people are to depart with £179.99, especially as the Xbox 360 is less than 3 months away.
We have no doubts that the PSP will be a success, but its long term appeal will be interesting. In Japan the initial hype was huge, but within 6 months the Nintendo DS was on top of it, many shops indicating a 3 to 1 ratio of DS sales to PSP ones. This has a little to do with a game that we may have mentioned involving dogs, which could either take the PSP to the dogs or leave the DS in the doghouse (our puns are definitely improving, don't you think?).
Anyone who is planning on getting a PSP may be tempted by these titles, but the real eye opener is the
Oldboy
UMD as the European release is the first in the world! Despite the movie being Japanese, we are getting the UMD version before the Japanese and Americans! This could see a bizarre occurrence of Americans and Japanese people actually importing from the UK! It would be worth it actually as
Oldboy
is a very good film, especially if you like seeing Japanese people hit in the face with hammers, men who live on dumplings and bizarre twists that make Twin Peaks look normal. We kid you not…
