Microsoft Game Studios and Rare Interactive have announced that their hotly anticipated Xbox 360 title
Perfect Dark Zero
will be available in two different versions. There will be a standard version for those who just want the game and a special collectors edition for the fans who can remember dusting their Nintendo 64 off in order to play the original
Perfect Dark
.
The collectors edition will have two discs and each will be jammed full of bonus material, as outlined below:
Disc One: Perfect Dark Zero, The Game
The standard
Perfect Dark Zero
game, the prequel to the international award-winning and multimillion-selling first-person shooter
Perfect Dark
from famed game developer Rare, who are now owned by Microsoft.
Full use of all the technology offered by the 360, including HDTV and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.
A huge collection of the ultimate in high-tech, high-body count weapons, gadgets, and vehicles, including jetpacks, a hovercraft, and more that has yet to be specified, probably because they are secret.
A single player mission that aims to live up to the prestigious nature of the series, possibly improving on the story of the first game. Expect twists and turns, especially with the unpredictable nature of alien weapons are taken into account, as we all know that aliens are dodgy.
A great collection of Xbox Live gameplay options, including Death-Match, Dark-ops and Scalable Maps to suit a given preference. This could really be the game to top
Halo 2
as the best Xbox Live game so far.
Disc Two: Bonus Content
Unlockable information about the creative process involved in the game with the in-depth behind-the-scenes 'The Art of Perfect Dark Zero' video feature.
An exclusive track "Limelight" from San Francisco's DJ Kepi & Kat taken right from the game. Let's hope the track is good then or else this will just be wasted disc space.
Unique game cards to add to your Xbox Live profile so that people can identify you as a true fan of the game, or as a rich kid who purchased the collector's edition just because it was more expensive.
Customise your Xbox 360 background with a Custom
Perfect Dark Zero
Theme for the Xbox 360 Guide. This will presumably add things such as wallpaper and icon schemes featuring Joanna Dark - fully clothed note.
The first chapter of Perfect Dark: Initial Vector, Greg Rucka's amazing new novel set six months after the game. How this will be displayed is not specified, whether a special book reader will be available in the tradition of Adobe Acrobat is unclear. Or it could be a graphic novel with art that is similar to the
Max Payne
cut scenes. Only time will tell.
The standard version of the game will just feature the first disc and a standard box and manual. The collector's version will have a black metal box and a comic book setting up the game, presumably including story elements that setup the introduction sequence. Another special feature to this version is the inclusion of one of nine 'hologram' cards that are supposedly collectable. A quick bit of maths means that they are nine times more collectable than the collector's edition of the game itself, and since the collector's edition is already rare you are talking really rare. This means that a real and rich collector (is there any other kind?) will have to get all nine and the standard version, keeping Microsoft and Rare in business for at least an extra ten minutes.
Both versions of the game will be released in the autumn, although it is not specified whether it will be a launch game at present. We look forwards to giving you more information as we get it.
