13th September 2005:
Sony Power Adapter Recall
Now it is the turn of the Slimeline PS2 to suffer from potential power problems.
Posted by Chris Snook - PlayStation 2 - UK and Europe

Sony have today, September 13th have announced a voluntary recall of specific AC power adapters for the Black Slimline Sony PS2.

The adapters, manufactured between August 2004 and December 2004, and sipped with the Black Slimline units with model numbers SCPH70002, 70003 and 70004 may overheat when in use and cause become an injury hazard to their owners. It is considered likely that some of these adapters were on sale beyond those dates.

As a precaution, SCEE (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe), has taken the decision to recall all the affected adapters in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Australasia. To help identification of one of the adapters a website has been set up showing how to identify the affected units, where they can also arrange for a replacement to be shipped.

Further as of tomorrow, September 14th a dedicated recall help line will be available and advertised in the national newspapers, in the consumer alerts sections. The new adapter will be provided free of charge and the old adapter should not be returned to the place of purchase.

It was also stated that as a precautionary measure the PS2 should be disconnected from the mains supply and avoid use until the replacement arrives.
