Dolls get Steamed
Rag Doll Kung Fu breaks the rules and becomes infamous before we have even played it...

In an interesting move that could be a step towards the future of game sales, the game
Rag Doll Kung Fu
has been released on the PC. But instead of venturing into your nearest retailer to purchase the game, it can only be brought on the Steam platform.
Steam is a digital download service that was designed and created by Valve Software, creators of the legendary Half Life games. The service allows players to select what they would like to buy and then to download it onto their computer, without the need to wait for delivery or patches.
Rag Doll Kung Fu
is not just an obscure and irrelevant game though; it is potentially revolutionary. This is due to the mechanics of the game - everything is done using the mouse alone. The game takes the form of a two dimensional fighting game, with the fighters as 'puppets'. They can only be moved by dragging their limbs. So to walk or run you will literally have to drag the legs of your player in the direction that you want. This same idea follows for kicks, punches and even head butts - a drag of the body part into the desired impact position and… voila!
The other thing that is unique about the nature of the game is that there are no pre defined animations at all. Every motion that is made is pure real-time. This means that there is no need for delay in animation routines or unnecessary motion. Quite logically, the character moves only as you want them to.
With the game only released on Steam yesterday, we have yet to download it, even though it is only £8.40. We will do so later today and so you can look forwards to our verdict soon. All we can say is that it looks great and is indeed a good step towards the download revolution that could be adapted by any future platform; namely the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
