Nintendo is planning to implement a concurrent worldwide release of its next-generation console, Revolution, and hopes to make the machine available sometime after next March, but before the end of next year.
The news was revealed by company president Satoru Iwata (pictured), who commented that Nintendo hoped to make Revolution a "simultaneous worldwide release as much as it's possible". This must certainly be in the light of Microsoft's plans for the Xbox 360 and the rumours that Sony may not get the PlayStation 3 in shops until 2007.
Iwata also confirmed that Revolution will be "coming out during 2006", although he specified in the interview with a Japanese paper, Nikkei Business, that it would be sometime after the current financial year, which ends March 31. This indicates that Nintendo want to begin the financial year with a new string to its bow, and has faith that the GameCube, GameBoy Micro and Nintendo DS have enough to carry the company until then.
We are very, very excited by this as it means that Nintendo will probably get their console out into the world before Sony and Microsoft have any level footing in the next generation of the console war. This could see a return to the innovation and success that Nintendo always thrived on in the days of the NES and SNES.
