8th November 2005:
Sega and THQ double the value
Classic Sega games are being twinned together for a collection of retro packs. Every one's a winner...
Posted by Chris Barnett - Game Boy Advance - UK and Europe

THQ and Sega have announced that they have entered a co-publishing and distribution deal for a collection of SEGA Double Packs on the Game Boy Advance in European PAL territories and Australia. Each of the packages contains two games, each renowned in some way, and will be available from late November 2005.

"This is a great opportunity for THQ to bring great games at a fantastic price point to shoppers in time for the Christmas holiday," stated Ian Curran, senior vice president, European publishing, THQ. "The Sonic franchise in particular is extremely popular and we're pleased to be able to give consumers another opportunity to experience these exciting games."

"Given the recent release of the Game Boy Micro and the backwards compatibility of the Nintendo DS, the Game Boy platform is as relevant and popular as ever," said Mike Hayes, President & COO, SEGA Europe Ltd. "The SEGA combo packs offer two distinctly different gameplay experiences, both perfect for gaming on the go. We're excited to be able to work with THQ to bring the product to the European market."

Under the terms of the agreement, THQ will co-publish and distribute the following Game Boy Advance titles:

  • Sonic Advance + Sonic Battle
  • Sonic Advance + Sonic Pinball Party
  • Sonic Advance + ChuChu Rocket!
  • Columns Crown + ChuChu Rocket!
  • Sonic Pinball Party + Sonic Battle
  • Sonic Battle + ChuChu Rocket!
  • Sonic Pinball Party + Columns Crown

Just in case you are unfamiliar with any of the listed games, below is a brief summary of the key games.

    Sonic Advance
Classic Sonic scrolling platforming at high speed, with added emerald and Chao collecting. One of the best two dimensional platform games ever seen.

    Sonic Pinball Party
Smooth pinball action through 3 vibrant pinball boards, featuring Sonic Team characters, including Sonic & friends, Amigo and NiGHTS! Good if you like pinball games.

    Sonic Battle
Fight as one of nine characters including Sonic, Tails and Shadow; use special attacks and team-based assaults; create and train fighting partner for 2-on-2 battles; fight with up to 4-players in connected battles. Sadly mediocre due to the 'off key' isometric view.

    ChuChu Rocket!
One of the most addictive puzzle games ever seen and as frantic as a mouse after an electric shock. Classic stuff.

    Columns Crown
Sega's attempt at Tetris was never as good as the original, but this version is suitably different due to the opponents in real time. Especially frantic on the later puzzles and a game that deserves to be played if you are up on your puzzles.

We love these collections here at Silicon Fusion and would certainly consider these collections good value. If you are getting a Game Boy Advance in some form (be it DS or micro) then you could do much worse than these!
