9th November 2005:
Championship Manager gets 3D!
Yes, you saw it correctly: Championship Manager 2006 will feature a 3D match engine for the first time in the series.
Posted by Chris Barnett - PC - UK and Europe

Eidos Interactive has announced that Championship Manager 2006 will be released in the UK in Spring 2006 on PC. Whilst this does not immediately offer any surprise due to the annual update being commonplace, the new features do open our eyes somewhat.

Developed by London-based Beautiful Game Studios (BGS), the all-new 2006 version offers a wide range of innovative new features and is possibly the most realistic version to date, offering more features and information than any previous version of the game.

Championship Manager 2006 boasts a brand new Gameplan 3D match engine, where players can watch their match unfold in the same way they watch the match on TV - but with the ability to adjust tactics, player positions or formations - or simply use the Highlight Filter to select the moments they want to watch. This is quite simply what we have been waiting for from the series.

You will also be able to interact with your squad and speak with your players for the first time: make promises to individual players to improve their mood or form or simply insult them with poor contracts. But as in real life, if promises are broken, trust is lost and there are consequences - with the new player status screen you can monitor the mood and form of every player in your squad.

Championship Manager 2006 offers the ability to scout in depth with a new 'Simulate world' option. For the first time, users will be able to view authentic player's performance stats outside the nation in which they are managing. This will come at no real cost to the speed of the game either, which is key to the accessibility of the game.

The game will also feature accurate fitness regimes devised by Mervyn Day, first team coach at Charlton Athletic (so he must be good). You will be able to study your opposition's current form through parallel match processing, involving the ability to watch their previous matches through the Gameplan 3D engine, before you face them whilst the game progresses. This sounds like the process that many managers use these days, when they look at video footage before games- only this time you will be ejecting the tapes.

For lazy players, opting for a mega-rich investor could be the option, as in reality. But for us it would be much more challenging to take a lower 'chicken feed' club into moderate success.

Championship Manager 2006 allows you to manage your club to glory, dealing with everything from tactics and training to transfers - everything you would expect a real-life football manager to do without resulting to watching a mundane episode of Mike Bassett on TV.

We can't wait to bring you the first shots of the 3D matches, so hang tight and don't get relegated in the meantime...
