Cubist Pessimism
Times are dark for the once mighty Nintendo as they await the Revolution.
Posted by Chris Snook - Game Boy Advance,GameCube - UK and Europe

With the European launch of the Xbox 360 only now a few short days away, one of the other entrants in the war to win out hearts and thumbs of the next level of console gaming has reported less than expected earnings.

Nintendo, for many years the biggest player on the console scene has announced that it's net profit for the last six months or so has slid compared to last year with weak sales of the current GameCube being blamed as many retailers are already offering the machine at discounted prices. It was further reported that the massive development of the new Revolution console will already impact on next years results.

Even the normally trusty handheld market was less than could be hoped for with spending power being squeezed and again discounts and bundles being offered to boost the sales of the twin screen platform. However Nintendo are upbeat, with the buzz surrounding the Revolution profits may just once again pick up after next year.
