28th November 2005:
300,000 divided by 360 = sold out stock!
The Xbox 360 will certainly be in short supply to Europe this Friday, even for those with pre-orders.
Posted by Chris Barnett - - UK and Europe

Microsoft has confirmed that Europe as a whole will receive somewhere in the region of 300,000 Xbox 360 consoles for this Friday's launch of the machine.

Early, speculative estimates of 300,000 consoles available for the European launch were "not far removed from reality" said Chris Lewis, the man in charge of Xbox Europe. This is not actually confirming the number, but as many sources agree that 300,000 is realistic, it seems to be reliable enough for simple conclusions about stock levels to be reached.

Exactly how those Xbox 360s will be distributed throughout Europe is unclear, so we still don't know how many of the machines will be available to eager UK gamers in conjunction with the rest of Europe. All that is certain at the moment is that some stores have accepted stock today in advance, so you can expect a news story in the national press of a heist or theft involving this 'waiting' stock.

Lewis also told the German financial newspaper Euro am Sonntag that he believes it's possible that the short supply of 360s will mean that the console will sell out at its European launch. This is perhaps one of the most pathetic pieces of logic we have witnessed in recent times as the fact of poor stock has been known for some time.

Our advice to those who have pre-ordered from a high street store is to phone them and ask exactly where you are on the list of waiting gamers. Anywhere outside of the first five should not count on getting a 2nd of December machine.

To complicate things further, many electrical retailers have reported a huge increase in the sales of HD Ready TVs in possible relation to the Xbox 360's release.

As we have both an Xbox 360 and a new 45 inch HD Ready TV on the way to our shiny Silicon Fusion towers you can rest assured that we will be here to give you all the reviews and summaries of the console and games when they arrive on Friday!
