Total Immersion Racing is a new racing game from Empire and Razorworks that is taking the Gran Turismo approach of offering players as much realism as possible. The game includes real-world cars and tracks, and allows you to play through a 'career' mode where you start out in a GT Sports Car and progress to much more powerful, 8-litre prototype cars.
Empire claims that the most impressive area of the game is its physics engine, which is used to realistically model the handling of each car. The engine calculates how every object on the track should respond in incredible detail, right down to the tyres, with which deformation, tyre wall stiffness, tread depth and inflation pressures are taken into account. Aerodynamics are also recreated realistically, allowing for slipstreaming and cross-wind effects that are almost indistinguishable from those found in real life.
It all sounds very impressive, and these new screenshot show that the game has enough visual polish to attract even GT3 fans. However, whether or not it will come close to Sony's wonder remains to be seen - we hope to have the answer in our full review which will be live on the site very soon!
