TOCA Race Driver was the first game in the popular TOCA franchise to appear on next-generation consoles, and also take the series in a new direction, following the life of racing driver Ryan McKane. Taking on the role of this rookie racer, you have to convince manufacturers to support you in your quest to follow in your father's footsteps and become a racing champion. The game not only contained options for managing your career as a racing driver, but also featured cut-scenes of conversations between you, your bosses and other racers who you might have offended on the track. Despite some graphical shortcomings, the game excelled in gameplay and length, and we gave it a good 8/10 score when we reviewed the PS2 version back in September.
With the game being a popular choice on the PS2, it was inevitable that ports would appear sooner or later, and now PC owners can get in on the action, and even take advantage of new features. TOCA Race Driver on PC lets you race against up to 19 opponents at the same time, which is an increase of six cars over the PS2 version. You also get to race in 42 touring and sports cars which are modelled on real-life vehicles, take part in 13 championships and tear up 38 realistically-modelled international race circuits. PC gamers will also get to play against other gamers over a LAN or the Internet when a downloadable extra becomes available later this year.
TOCA Race Driver is in stores now, and looks well worth investing in if you're a fan of the series and haven't already picked up the PS2 version. Check out these screenshots from the PC version below!
