First Splashdown 2 screenshots
The original game was one of the best jet-ski racers on the PS2, but can the sequel match its success?
Posted by Marc Hull - PlayStation 2 - UK and Europe

The original Splashdown appeared on the market during a time when almost every developer seemed to be creating a jet-ski game. During this difficult time it was compared to titles like Jet Ski Riders and Wave Race: Blue Storm, and despite not bettering Nintendo's big jet-ski franchise, it still fared pretty well. The game's mix of fast-paced action and smooth graphics also propelled it into the software charts, and secured a sequel which was unveiled earlier this week.

Splashdown 2 is being developed by Rainbow Studios, the same company behind the original title, and is this time being published by THQ. The game will bear a good resemblance to its predecessor, but will boast an improved physics engine and more realistic waves, which include swift currents and downhill rivers. The game will also feature a stunt mode and an all-new Technical Time Trials mode for players to perfect their jet-ski racing on.

If the original was anything to go by, Splashdown 2 should be well worth looking out for. Be sure to check out Silicon Fusion closer to the game's Summer release for more information; in the meantime we have some neat first screenshots for your viewing pleasure!
