First person shooters are quite common these days, and many developers are contending with one another to try to make the most realistic 'war simulations'. Now UK-developer Rage is hoping to get in on the act with their impressive SAS-simulation, Team SAS, which is appearing on Xbox this Summer. This game will allow the player to take on one of four unique roles as heavy weapons support, a jungle warfare scout, a long range sniper or a team commander, and work together with three team members to complete objectives in a set of jungle-based missions. As these early screenshots show, the game offers some of the most realistic jungle-based environments seen in a first-person shooter, with jungle camouflage actually making a big difference in whether a character is visible or not. The game also promises a complex storyline joining together the missions and loads of tool and weapons modelled on those used by the real SAS.
To add to the game's realism, Rage have consulted best-selling author and real decorated SAS soldier Andy McNab to help them develop the game. To further increase the sense of being part of a team, the game will allow your three team-mates to be controlled by other players, so up to four players can play through all the missions co-operatively. The graphics engine is also sounding suitably impressive, with 3D foliage, sunlight shafts and volumetric fog all realistically modelled.
Team SAS sounds like a very promising title, and we hope to have more details closer to its Summer release date. Until then, why not check out the first screenshots below?
